In tandem, accelerating access to affordable finance for EVs is crucial for spurring adoption, especially in the less mature EV markets. Interest-rate support through concessional loans to consumers could be introduced in geographies with high borrowing costs, and EVs could be included under priority sector lending, which would increase the pool of money allocated by banks for financing EV purchases. While electrification is the key pathway for passenger vehicles, it is also gaining traction as a solution for commercial trucks. BNEF’s EVO finds that economics of battery-powered trucks improve toward 2030, with the supporting charging infrastructure developing. By that time, almost 10% of new sales of medium- and heavy-duty trucks are electric.
